An internal audit is an independent and objective review and consulting process whose aim is to add value and improve the operation of an organization. It helps an organization achieve its goals by introducing an organized and methodic approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management processes, internal control, oversight and corporate governance. The goals of an internal audit include, among others, an evaluation of legal compliance, proper administration, integrity and efficiency. The internal auditor serves as an ombudsman and, as such, is responsible to independently review complaints regarding acts or defaults related to the operations of the company or the actions individuals within the company (as defined in the company’s procedures).
